In the fall of 2009 the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (“ENC”) board of directors voted to disaffiliate from the national Alzheimer’s Association (“National’) headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. I understand National then responded in kind. As with many soured relationships, there was a long history between the two parties preceding their actions.
I was not involved in this dispute nor the later disaffiliation process and arbitration hearings which culminated in an arbitration award in the spring of 2011. However, I was involved in the history and process which guided their disaffiliation and arbitration process. Thus, it is perhaps appropriate my first several entries will discuss some of my history and involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association. That’s where my journey began more than twenty years ago.

He completed advanced training in nonprofit organizations from: Harvard Business School's Initiative on Social Enterprise; Harvard Kennedy School's Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations; Duke University's Nonprofit Management Program; University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business; Center for Creative Leadership; BoardSource; and the TCC Group.
